Having always been a loyal follower of the work done by The Akshaya Patra Foundation, I was thrilled when I found that the foundation has been receiving a spate of awards recently. Through their brochures and other communications collateral, and their high quality of work, Akshaya Patra’s communications model has always been very resource driven and target oriented, which is reflected in the various awards earned by their talented content and creative team.
Their annual report alone was the winner of two prestigious awards – the Corporate Collateral award (Gold) in the Annual Report category, at the PRCI Global Communication Conclave 2014; and Gold in the Annual Report competition held by the League of American Communications Professionals (LACP) in the 2012/13 Vision Awards.
I found it unsurprising that Akshaya Patra Foundation had won these awards given the novel approach they adopt toward their annual report each year. With a different theme and concept each year, the Akshaya Patra annual reports always have a unique identity in production and presentation. The website carries the online version of the annual report as well as a link to their flipbook, which gives the reader a charming, real world feel of the report.
In the PRCI awards, Akshaya Patra has also had the significant honour of being the first NGO to win in this category, with major corporates like Canara Bank, CREDAI and TAFE filling the runner’s up positions. For the LACP awards, Akshaya Patra set itself apart from a crowd of over 6,000 entries, from over two dozen entries and 800 entities by being ranked number 34 in the list of the top 50 annual reports worldwide!
Another reason I greatly respect The Akshaya Patra Foundation is for their meticulous scrutiny and care when dealing with financials. Recently Akshaya Patra was awarded the Gold Shield by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for excellence in financial reporting for the year 2012-13 under category XI, not-for-profit sector. Having won this award five times consecutively, Akshaya Patra has now been inducted into the ICAI Wall of Fame!
Akshaya Patra’s excellent communication model also extends in a very effective manner into the realm of Facebook and other social media like YouTube, Google Plus and Twitter. With their interesting and reader friendly updates I’ve found myself not just inspired, but continually engaged with their cause.
The recent sweep of awards they’ve bagged have only reinforced my belief in them as an organization and raised my expectations for many more to come. Kudos to you, Akshaya Patra, and keep up the good work!
